SCC ( Stress Corrosion Cracking) is an environmental type of corrosion that has become a major concern for many of the world's pipeline operators.

The Ultrasonic Technology Vehicle designed by NGKS' Engineering Division has proved to be a reliable and accurate solution to this challenging task.

The UTCD tool is capable of detecting axially oriented cracks, crack-like defects, toe-cracks, lack of fusion and small individual or colonies of SCC. The tool operates on the principle of emission of ultrasound pulses at a 45 degree angle to create a shear wave in the pipewall. These waves are used to locate these cracks, even those in the earliest stage of development, before they can grow to become a cause for concern.
